Patient Information
Background Information
Oral and maxillofacial surgery requires four or more additional years of intensive hospital-based medical, surgical, and anesthesia training beyond the four years of dental school. Oral and maxillofacial surgeons have the unique opportunity to be educated alongside physicians in all areas of medicine, surgery, and anesthesia. As oral and maxillofacial surgeons, Drs. Hesterberg, Breda and Rotter manage a wide variety of problems relating to the mouth, teeth, and facial region. The doctors at SIOMS practice a full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery with expertise ranging from wisdom tooth removal to corrective jaw surgery and hospital care. We can also diagnose and treat facial pain and TMJ disorders, facial injuries, pathology of the mouth and face region, and perform a full range of dental implant procedures.
Since the inception of SIOMS in 1988, our goal has been to provide the most comfortable care possible in a relaxing environment. We realize that many patients are nervous or fearful of oral surgical procedures. We offer a range of anesthetic options to make sure that your fears are allayed and that your surgery is pain free. However, some procedures do need to be performed in a hospital setting. For more complicated cases, the doctors have staff privileges at Memorial Hospital and HealthSouth Ambulatory Surgery Center in Belleville, and the Edwardsville Ambulatory Surgery Center in Edwardsville.
Surgical Staff
We strive to maintain not only knowledgeable staff at SIOMS, but compassionate staff who can help make your visit less stressful. The surgical staff at SIOMS are experienced oral and maxillofacial surgical assistants. They assist the doctor during surgery and with the administration of I.V. anesthesia. They will also assist you throughout your visit, from pre- and post-operative instructions to preparing you for surgery. All staff are CPR certified.
